I am incredibly passionate about utilising all the primary source documents from within the collections of The National Records of Scotland, Edinburgh City Archives and the National Library of Scotland. Based in Edinburgh also allows me to visit many other archives across Scotland, which I regularly do for clients. I greatly enjoy carrying out house histories, or research into a surname or one place as a study for a client. I can provide consultancy and/or a research plan for those visiting Edinburgh wishing to carry out their own research. I have a great interest in Apprenticeship Indenture records; surname-rich sources relating to the migration of the Scottish Diaspora; Clearances; Militia; anything to do with East Lothian, Perthshire, Angus the Scottish Borders and Ireland's records as well as the Kirk Session Minutes and the Sasine Registers (land and property transactions). I’m a tutor on the Correspondence Course with IHGS (Institute of Heraldry & Genealogical Studies at Canterbury) and provide family history day courses with East Renfrewshire Culture & Leisure at Giffnock Library.
