Hiring an ASGRA Member

ASGRA members can assist with a wide variety of research projects, and with accessing records held in Scottish archives. Members’ services include the following:

Those wishing to hire a professional genealogist should consult the List of Members to identify the researcher best suited to their needs.

A preliminary email or letter should be sent to the individual researcher, providing relevant details. For researching a family, the minimum information needed to begin a search is a name, the date (even if only approximate) of a birth, marriage or death that took place in Scotland, and, if possible, a location.

The member will provide an assessment of the feasibility of the research, and the likely expense involved. Members usually charge on an hourly basis, and fees may vary depending on the nature and complexity of the research. Additional expenses may include entry fees to research centres, copying costs and travel expenses.
