ASGRA CPD – John McGee: Hunting the Three Lions

John McGee, one of our ASGRA members presented a very successful CPD (Continued Professional Development) event this evening covering his research into his new book “Pride of the Three Lions”: the untold story of the men and women who made the heroes of Wembley 1966, which was written under his pseudonym Derek Niven.

John gave an extremely interesting talk on the genealogical research undertaken to locate the family histories of the England football team who won the World Cup in 1966. He outlined the various phases of research, including the life and careers of the players and manager, the English & Welsh family history research phase, the Scottish research phase and the Irish research phase. He highlighted the differences and intricacies of each phase and where various records were accessible across the four countries. It also included some Jewish genealogy with help from an East London synagogue.
